West Ham United v Bayer 04 Leverkusen – UEFA Europa League Quarter-Final – Second-Leg – London Stadium (Thursday 8pm) – Preview

West Ham United need to pull out all the stops if they are to progress to a third-successive European semi-final.

The Hammers trail 2-0 from their UEFA Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie in Germany against a Bayer Leverkusen side that are unbeaten in all competitions this season and were crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time in their history at the weekend.

Indeed, progression for the East Londoners would be viewed as their greatest-ever result in Europe and needs to be achieved without the services of several key players.

Leading marksman, Jarrod Bowen remains sidelined with a back injury, while goalkeeper Alphonse Areola (hip), Kalvin Phillips (thigh) and George Earthy (Concussion) are also sidelined.

Moyes will also be without Lucas Paqueta and Emerson, both suspended after picking up bookings in the BayArena clash.

Goals from Jonas Hofmann and Victor Boniface separate the sides. Nevertheless, Moyes remained bullish: “It’s an opportunity to bounce back against Bayer Leverkusen,” the Scotsman told www.whufc.com.

“It’s a quick turnaround but it’s not as quick a turnaround as Thursday to Sunday.

“When it is Sunday to Thursday you have an extra day or two to get yourself ready, and it’s a little bit easier to prepare for that game, while the other gives you no time at all.

“We will get ready for the game on Thursday night now, and hopefully we can respond in the right way.”

Jeevesie’s prediction: West Ham United 0-2 Bayer 04 Leverkusen
