Olympiacos CFP v West Ham United – UEFA Europa Conference League – Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki – Report

Olympiacos CFP 2-1 West Ham United

West Ham United’s seventeen-match unbeaten run in competitive European football is over after they slipped to a xx UEFA Europa Conference Group A defeat against Olympiacos CFP at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki.

The Hammers trailed 2-0 at the break. Their Greek hosts took the lead shortly after the half-hour mark when Kostas Fortounis lashed beyond Alphonse Areola from outside the box. Then in first-half stoppage time, Angelo Ogbonna’s disastrous clearance was sliced into his own goal after Rodinei had centrered, leaving the East Londoners with a mountain to climb.

Lucas Paquetá reduced the arrears with four minutes remaining, firing home for twenty yards. However, despite dominating the latter stages, an equalising goal was not forthcoming.

Despite the defeat, West Ham remain top of Group A. They now turn their attention to the Premier League where they face Everton at the London Stadium on Sunday, October 29 (1pm).
