Liverpool 2-1 West Ham United
West Ham United tasted defeat for the first time in five Premier League outings as Liverpool plundered the points from this hard-fought encounter at Anfield.
Pablo Fornals crisply fired West Ham into a first-half lead. However, Arthur Masuaku appeared to be harshly punished following a tangle with Mohammed Salah – the Egyptian dusting himself off to score the resulting spot-kick shortly before the break.
West Ham defended stoutly after the interval, but they were undone in thirteen minutes from time when Diogo Jota fishing after Lukasz Fabianski had kept out Sadio Mane’s initial effort.
Hammers boss, David Moyes, was unimpressed with the penalty decision which brought about Liverpool’s equaliser: “I think he throws himself to the ground,” the Scotsman bemoaned.
“He expects the ref to do something the way he threw himself but it went the other way. We’re really disappointed we didn’t come away with something.”
On the performance, Moyes added: “I have to say Liverpool were very good with the ball and we defended really well, but that’s what you expect.
“We knew the game was going to be really tough and we’d need to be disciplined, but we missed a couple of really good opportunities to get another goal, but it’s a good sign that we’re playing some really good stuff.”
West Ham United return to Premier League action on Saturday, November 7 when Fulham are the visitors to the London Stadium (8pm).
