West Ham Women v Brighton & Hove Albion – FA Women’s Super League – Chigwell Construction Stadium – Report

West Ham United Women 0-0 Brighton & Hove Albion

West Ham and Brighton shared the spoils following a lacklustre and scoreless afternoon at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

The draw now extends the gap between the Hammers and Bristol City in the relegation spot at the bottom of the Women’s Super League table to seven points – with four matches left to play.

In a scrappy clash of few chances, Japanese international Riko Ueki spurned a good opportunity to put West Ham one up after failing to head home from close range early on, whilst Brighton keeper Sophie Baggaley was in top form throughout the encounter – saving well from Emma Snerle, Honoko Hayashi and Anouk Denton to ensure that the visitors were able to register a clean sheet for the first time since their 6-0 win over Luton Town in the Women’s FA Cup on January 14.

With Brighton managing only two shots on target, Hammers keeper Mackenzie Arnold was barely troubled at all during the game. Mikey Harris’s side were perhaps unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty late on when Vivane Asseyi brought Madison Haley to ground in the box – only for referee Kirsty Dowle to wave away the vociferous Seagulls appeals.

Next up for Rehanne Skinner’s West Ham is a trip to the Joie Stadium on Sunday, April 21 to play league leaders Manchester City.
