Sam Handley’s superb unbeaten 125 off 104 balls went some way towards maintaining Hadleigh & Thundersley’s perfect start to their Gooch Division campaign, this time against nearest rivals, Old Southendian & Southchurch at the John Burrows Recreation Ground.

Handley’s knock included fifteen 4’s and three 6’s – he was ably supported by Luke Smith who chipped in with 71* as the home side posted 249/4 in difficult conditions for cricket.

Despite the early conclusion due to the weather closing in, the result was never really in doubt. Handley and Haider Ali Syed Zaidi each claimed two wickets as the Old Boys were reduced to 80/7 when the rain started falling heavily. Kyle Smith (27) and Ahsan Yousaf (14) the only visiting batsmen to reach double figures as their unbeaten start was brought to an end.

Points: Hadleigh & Thundersley 20 Old Southendian & Southchurch 1
