Sussex v Essex – The Bob Willis Trophy – Day Two – 1st Central County Ground, Hove – Close
Sussex 155/6 (61.0 overs)
Essex (Yet to bat)
Essex won the toss and elected to bowl
Simon Harmer was back amongst the wickets as Essex took a grip against Sussex but again fell foul of the weather on day-to of their Bob Willis Tropy clash at Hove.
With only 30 overs possible on the first day, Sussex resumed their overnight tally of 93/2 but swiftly lost Harry Finch – Jamie Porter claiming his third wicket of the contest – Sir Alastair Cook displaying a safe pair of hands in the slips.
Harmer took his first-class tally ever-closer to 300, claiming both Ben Brown and Delray Rawlins, thanks to Paul Walter and Cook, either side of Tom Clark’s dismissal to Aaron Beard as Essex successfully negotiated what proved to be the only period of play possible as rain sent the players scurrying just before lunch.
Despite the rain subsiding, a wet outfield ensured an early close – Umpires, Ian Gould and Mark Newell, frustratingly, but correctly, calling time late in the afternoon. Play resumes on Monday at 11am.
