Indeed, the sense of occasion wasn’t lost on the locals with almost 700 cramping into Burrough Park for the biggest match in more than a century.

The home side edged an otherwise scrappy opening period, with hero Tablot forcing Falmouth keeper, Morgan Coxhead into an important stop in the opening minutes.

Soon after, the visiting stopper produced a brilliant save to keep out Jake Gordon’s thundering volley. Falmouth had their moments, with Tom Annear twice close with headed attempts.

But after the restart, Rovers stepped up the tempo and forged ahead midway through the half. Annear missed his kick after the tricky Gordon had drilled in from the right, and Talbot was on hand to fire the hosts ahead and send the home support delirious in the process.

With their tales up, Rovers went for the jugular and they doubled their advantage ten minutes from time when Tabolt held his nerve to score from the penalty spot after substitute Max Gnandi had been felled.
