Havering Council is paying tribute to the continued efforts of young residents throughout the pandemic with a free small-scale music event. It will be a celebration for young people coming out of lockdown and getting back on with their lives.
The ‘Thank YOUth’ event will take place on Sunday, September 5 in Market Place, Romford, adjacent to Liberty Centre and Tollgate House from 11am to 4pm.
The event will include a large 15 diameter inflatable dome with live music and dance, and it will feature the talents of some of our best local young artists, performers and DJ’s.
On the day, there will be the opportunity for attendees to ‘vlog’ about their coming out of lockdown experiences and add artwork or poems to a memory wall display.
Youth Unity, who are organising the event on behalf of the council, are a community group who specialise in engaging with young people on a variety of socially responsible campaigns including knife crime and drug awareness education. Youth Unity will also be supported on the day by [email protected], a fellow youth organisation who combat knife crime and drug abuse through sport.
Havering Council staff will be will be distributing test kits from The Liberty Vaccine Centre nearby and will be on hand to answer any questions about vaccinations or testing.
The leader of Havering Council, Damian White, said: “We want to thank all our young residents for the role they have played during the pandemic and ‘Thank YOUth’ is a positive way to show our appreciation.
“We recognise the significant sacrifices our younger residents have made throughout the pandemic, with school lessons interrupted, social interactions limited and a reduction in sport and physical activity. ‘Thank YOUth’ is an opportunity to pay tribute to the sacrifices they have made and the challenges they have encountered over the past 18 months.
“I’m looking forward to joining the celebrations on Sunday and personally thanking all those young people in attendance on behalf of our borough.”
