Havering leisure centres to raise funds for residents affected by recent wildfires

Leisure facilities in Havering, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Havering Council and Loxford School Trust, are hosting a charity support event to help families and local businesses who have been exiled from their properties in the recent wildfires.

Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre, Sapphire Ice and Leisure, and Abbs Cross Health and Fitness, are all hosting fun-filled events across the weekend of August 12-14, running from 11am to 10pm.

Abbs Cross Health and Fitness will be running badminton sessions on the Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 1pm, whilst Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre has a range of activities from badminton and table tennis on Saturday from 11am to 1pm and is hosting Fortis sessions on Sunday from 8:30am to 11:30.

Sapphire Ice and Leisure is holding a disco on Friday 12 starting at 3:30pm. On Saturday and Sunday there will be family swim sessions from 13:30pm and public skating will be available from 10am.

The team are encouraging visitors to make a minimum voluntary donation of £2 which will go directly to those affected residents in the Wennington area. This can be done through accessing the JustGiving link via a QR code, which will be on display at sites.

Tom Fletcher, area contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re really proud as a team to be offering our support to the council to raise funds for the devastation that the fires have caused within the local community. We’re playing a small part by holding a fantastic two-day event here at Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre. Hopefully we can raise enough money to really make a difference and help those families that have been displaced from their homes.”

Councillor Ray Morgon, leader of Havering Council, said: “Havering is a borough which always responds to people in need and the team at Everyone Active are no exception. They play an important role in our community and their support in the early response to the fires was unfaltering. It is wonderful to see their continued commitment to our residents and those affected by the fires and I urge as many residents as possible to get involved.”

Activities for the open day will need to be booked in advance online via the Everyone Active website. For more information, please visit: www.everyoneactive.com/news/havering-charity-open-days/
