HODS hold the upper hand as Old Boys are beaten

Old Southendian ‘B’ 1-2 HODS

HODS leapfrogged Old Southendian in the Southend Borough & District Football Combination Division Two table after recording a narrow success from this hard-fought encounter at a chilly Garon Park.

The visitors avenged a defeat at the hands of the Old Boys earlier in the campaign with Kevin MacDougall and a Brian Corke spot-kick ultimately proving decisive.

HODS stopper, James Head produced saved a penalty from Joe Madren to preserve the visitors’ two-goal advantage. However, a third penalty saw Finley Miles reduce the arrears.

“It was a great win and an outstanding team performance against a strong Old Boys team,” HODS boss, Robert Jarvis told Yellow Sport.

“The players battled hard and were happy to avenge our loss to them from earlier in the season.

“I thought we dominated throughout. A fantastic penalty save from James kept us ahead.”

Meanwhile, Old Boys chief, Will Green, added: “We started the game well and created a lot of chances in the first twenty minutes,”

“But Tom Skedge went off with a dislocated shoulder and unfortunately, we lost our grip on the game.

“We lacked the final ball for most of the game and we didn’t really have much grit. It’s a shame after winning our last two games convincingly.”
