Crawley Town v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – Broadfield Stadium – Report

Crawley Town 2-3 Colchester United

Tom Hopper grabbed a brace to help Colchester United overcome play-off contenders Crawley Town and lift the North Essex side out of the Sky Bet League Two relegation zone.

On a dramatic afternoon at the Broadfield Stadium, Hopper opened the scoring just after the twenty-minute mark, and although Klaidi Lolos restored parity, Cameron McGeehan put the U’s back in front just before the interval.

Hopper added his second and the U’s third a minute after the restart. But in a dramatic finale, substitute Samson Tovide was sent off for an off-the-ball incident, then Harry Forster reduced the arrears seven minutes into stoppage time.

But Colchester held on for a vital victory, lifting them a point clear of Sutton United, who drew at Harrogate Town.

Colchester United return to Sky Bet League Two action on Tuesday, April 16, when Grimsby Town visit the JobServe Community Stadium (7:45pm).
