A snaking line of over 200 fundraisers were dotted across Southend seafront at the weekend, all helping to raise money for the Southend University Hospital ward or department of their choice.
Friends, families, work colleagues, young and old, some in fancy dress, even an entire scout group, had all got up early to take part in Southend Hospital Charity’s Walk For Wards, a 7km stroll along the seafront from Uncle Tom’s Cabin to Chalkwell shelter.
It is hoped that the hospital will gain over £15,000 from this year’s event.
Elise Fleetwood, events & corporate relations manager for Southend Hospital Charity, said: “Once again local people have shown us how much they support Southend Hospital and the staff that have helped them or a loved one.
“The response never fails to amaze us.
Lorraine Walter from 3rd Southchurch Cubs took part in the event with 10 cubs. She said: “We are raising money for Neptune Ward. Our cubs are all children that have either been patients on the ward themselves, know someone that has been a patient or will have to use the ward at some point in the future.
“We felt it was really important for our cubs to give something back to a ward that provides our community with such a good service for our children.”
The date has already been set for the event next year, Sunday September 20, so if you fancy strutting your stuff along the seafront for Southend Hospital in 2020, contact fundraising on 01702 385337 or via [email protected]
