Salford City v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – The Peninsula Stadium – Report

Salford City 1-1 Colchester United

Draw specialists Colchester United earned their sixth stalemate in eight Sky Bet League Two matches under the guidance of Danny Cowley after substitute Bradley Ihionvien struck a quarter of an hour from time to earn a share of the spoils against Salford City at the Peninsula Stadium.

Ihionvien fired home, right-footed, after Matt Jay had fashioned out an opening, cancelling out Matt Smith’s close-range strike for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.

Ahead of the clash, boss, Cowley insisted his side were making steady progress: “I think we as a team are improving game by game,” he explained.

“We’re learning every game and now for us, it’s all about trying to take that learning into the next match or the next run of matches.

“We have Stockport coming pretty quickly after Salford as well and I think if we can do that we put ourselves in a really good position to keep trying to accumulate points.”

The point Colchester earned in the North-West ensured a five-point cushion over the bottom two. The U’s return to Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday, March 2 when Stockport County visit the Job Serve Community Stadium (3pm).
