Ilford man jailed for child rape

An Ilford man has been jailed for raping a nine-year-old girl.

Monsor Kazi, 54, of Hickling Road, Ilford, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday June 14 to 13 years and six months imprisonment after being found guilty of seven counts of rape and assault of an underage girl who was known to him.

The father of the victim reported the abuse to the Met on Saturday February 12 2022.

Specially trained officers tracked the suspect down, interviewed and arrested him on the same day. He was charged on Sunday February 13 2022 and convicted at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday October 25 2022.

Kazi initially denied the allegations.

Detective Constable Chloe James, who led the investigation based at Romford Police Station, said: “We’re very grateful to the victim for her courage in speaking about the abuse she faced at the hands of Kazi, and the witnesses who came forward to support this investigation.”

Kazi will be made to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life on his release.

Officers seized various items from a property in Dagenham, such as the victim’s clothing and bedding, which were rapidly analysed by forensics teams. Neighbourhood officers meanwhile carried out enquiries and collated statements from the victim and key witnesses.

The court heard that the sexual abuse of the child started in May or June of 2021 and lasted for approximately six months.
