Impressive Orient look in the mood

Hornchurch v Leyton Orient – Pre-Season Friendly – Hornchurch Stadium, Bridge Avenue – Report

Hornchurch 0-7 Leyton Orient

Leyton Orient opened their pre-season campaign with a thumping 7-0 win over Isthmian League Premier Division champions Hornchurch at a rainswept Bridge Avenue with Charlie Kelman (2) Dan Agyei, Sonny Perkins, Diallang Jaiyesemini, Nathan Bertram-Cooper (own goal) and Charlie Pegrum all netting for the East Londoners.

Richie Wellens chose to ‘give minutes’ to his entire first-team squad by playing separate elevens in each half with Agyei opening the scoring in the thirty-ninth minute before Perkins made it two just before the break.

Jaiyesemini quickly made it 3-0 just following the resumption before Kelman – with his first of the night and Bertram-Cooper – who turned Pegrum’s cross into his own net – put O’s 5-0 up just prior to the hour mark.

The rout continued in the eighty-first minute when Kelman – having returned to for a second spell in E10 on loan from QPR, cut in from the byline to slot home his second of the night and Orient’s sixth.

Pegrum completed the scoring six minutes from time after touching home sub–Makai Welch’s cross at the near post to make it 7-0.

A decent workout for O’s as a prelude to the more serious contests that await them further down the line this season as their attentions now turn to Saturday and their friendly against Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle Park, a game which forms part of the Edinburgh club’s 150-year celebrations.
