Old Southendian Ladies Hockey Clubs’ all-conquering first team recorded their sixth win of the season to expand their lead at the top of the table to five points.
This time, Basildon’s third XI were the victims, although the Old Girls didn’t have it all their own way.
On a damp afternoon, it was Basildon who snatched a first-half advantage. However, after the restart, the Seasiders responded marvellously with Sami Da Costa emphatically levelling following a short corner, then Anna Cooper swiping home to turn the game on its head.
The wet weather conditions had subsided by the time the Old Girls second XI got underway against their Braintree counterparts. And they proved to be far too strong, recording a resounding 7-1 success with Chloe Foster and Emily McCarthy scoring twice, while Maggie Downing, Freya Cotton and Alice Harman completed the rout.
Braintree offered more of a threat than the scoreline suggested. However, the North Essex side failed to capitalise on several decent chances which proved fatal against a ruthless Old Southendian side.
