Essex roared to a sizable LV=Insurance County Championship Division Two victory over Glamorgan, completing the task inside the first session of day three at Sophia Gardens.
Shane Snater finished with figures of 6/39 as the home side were knocked over for 134. Simon Harmer claimed 3/46 – Dan Douthwaite, Glamorgan’s shining light with the bat, hitting 39 off 69 balls during his 86 minute stint at the crease during a torrid first-innings for the hosts.
Essex then turned the screw further. Nick Browne returned to form with an impressive century, hitting 102 off 223 balls as the visitors established a healthy first-innings lead. Michael Pepper contributed 63, while Shane Snater followed up his six-wicket haul with a knock of 48 – Lukas Carey and Steven Reingold each taking three wickets for the Glamorgan.
Snater took his match figures to 7/58, while Jamie Porter and Sam Cook stepped up to make short work of the Welshman’s second innings. Cook took 5/37 while Porter chipped in with 3/35 – Essex securing victory by an innings and 76 runs.
Essex return to LV=Insurance County Championship Division Two action on Sunday, September 5-8 when Gloucestershire visit the Cloudfm County Ground, Chelmsford (10:30am).
