Blackpool v Southend United – Bloomfield Road – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 3pm

Blackpool v Southend United – Preview:

Sol Campbell’s preparations ahead of Southend United’s Sky Bet League One trip to Blackpool have been hit by damaging injury blows to experienced skipper, John White, and starlet, Harry Phillips.

Both players were forced off during the Blues dramatic victory over Lincoln City at Roots Hall Stadium last week. White, again with a broken arm, while ligament damage has ruled Phillips out, possibly for the remainder of the campaign.

White has now suffered similar arm injuries on three occasions in recent times: “He’s fractured his arm again, in a different spot,” Campbell told www.southendunited.co.uk.

“He will try to get back for the end of the season. It is what it is, it’s a shame because he has to start all over again but he’s a strong character and he will pull through.”

Phillips was replaced by Miles Mitchell-Nelson during the final stages of that win over the Imps: “He has a medial ligament [injury] which is going to be about three months max altogether from start to finish,” the Blues chief added.

“That’s a blow for him because he got into the team and was doing really well.”
Stephen Humphrys will also be missing when the Blues run out at Bloomfield Road, the striker has a broken nose although Campbell believed his absence wouldn’t be for more than a couple of weeks.

Sam Mantom could return. Along with Timothee Dieng, he will be assessed before the trip to the North-West.

Despite last weekend’s welcome win, Southend remains second from bottom in League One, twelve points adrift of the safety zone.
