Injury-hit Rovers seek Trophy success

Stowmarket Town v Great Wakering Rovers – Buildbase FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round – Greens Meadow – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Despite their gallant efforts, Great Wakering Rovers slipped out of the Emirates FA Cup at the hands of Peterborough Sports and while inactive in the Pitching In Isthmian League, slipped back to the bottom of the North Division as those around them picked up valuable points.

Throw in a sizable queue for the treatment table and you’d start to think boss, Steve Butterworth had shattered a mirror or two. However, the Rovers chief, as ever, remained positive and confident that his side can change their fortunes around.

Rovers head to Stowmarket Town for a Buildbase FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round tie on Saturday and like last week, start as underdogs: “It will be a tough game against a team that has adapted well following promotion,” Butterworth told Yellow Sport.

“Unfortunately, we are injury-hit at the moment and are down to thirteen in the group which isn’t ideal. Next Tuesday’s league game with Grays Athletic might be viewed as more important. But in both instances, we have nothing to lose and will give it everything we’ve got.

“I’ll take the opportunity to look at one or two that hasn’t played much first-team football recently. We can certainly take heart from last weeks showing in the FA Cup against a good Peterborough side.”
