Southend United v Rotherham United – Roots Hall Stadium – Sky Bet League One – Saturday 3pm

Southend United v Rotherham United – Preview:

Struggling Southend United have injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One clash with Rotherham United at Roots Hall Stadium.

Blues are without a win in eleven league matches and are already a staggering eleven points adrift of the safety zone following last weekend’s 4-2 defeat at Bristol Rovers.

Striker, Tom Hopper, received a deep cut and was stitched during the defeat at the Memorial Ground. However, Harry Lennon is in contention after coming through training this week.

Definitely sidelined is Nathan Ralph, who suffered a dislocated shoulder during the Blues draw at Burton Albion earlier this month.

“We still have to wait a little bit longer for a second opinion,” boss, Sol Campbell told www.southendunited.co.uk.

“I’ve had one of those before [a dislocated shoulder] and usually it’s three months, but if there’s any complications it could be longer and if surgery is needed it will definitely be longer.

“Hopefully it’ll be three months but if they have to open up then it’s going to be longer.”

Campbell suggested the Millers would offer his beleaguered side an altogether more robust test, adding: “They’re a mobile side, they’re strong and dominant in the air, they’re quick in areas.

“It’s going to be a robust game and we’ve got to be ready for the crosses and the one-to-one contact.

“If it’s aerial battles, we have to handle that and absorb that and know that game is coming. Be in the right position for crosses, but then also be ready for the one-twos they will want to play in the space behind us.

“On top of that we have to play our game and utilise the space around us, we’ve got to stretch them and ask questions of their backline as well in different ways. It’s going to be a robust game and we have to stand up to that.”
