Police are appealing for information or witnesses to an incident in Southend.
At around 2.30am today (Sunday January 16) they received a report of a fire at the Wimpy restaurant in Marine Parade.
DCI Jennifer Bliss, overseeing the investigation, said; “We want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something or someone who may have been acting suspiciously at the time.
“A few neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution whilst fire brigade worked to extinguish the fire.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote incident 130 of January 16.
