Iron run ended by title league leaders Yeovil Town

Braintree Town v Yeovil Town – Vanarama National League South – Rare Breeds Meat Co. Stadium – Report

Braintree Town 0-1 Yeovil Town

Braintree Town’s fourteen-game unbeaten run came to an end with Frank Nouble netting the only goal of the game to secure the points for Vanarama National League South table toppers Yeovil Town at the Rare Breeds Meat Co. Stadium.

Angelo Harrop made three changes to the Iron starting line-up following the goalless draw against Weymouth on Tuesday with Alfie Payne, Aaron Blair and Ben Tompkins replacing Reggie Lambe, Leon Davies and Charlie Wakefield – all of whom dropped to the bench.

The first scoring opportunity of the match fell to the Glovers when a mix-up in the Braintree defence allowed Jahmari Clarke to slip through, only for keeper Jack Sims to quickly smother the former Reading striker’s effort.

The visitors took the lead in the fourteenth minute when Jordan Young’s corner was nodded home by former West Ham and Colchester United forward Nouble.

Just before the break, Lewis Miccio fired a good opportunity over the Yeovil crossbar from just outside the area and following the resumption, Aaron Blair’s long-range effort looked to have Joe Day beaten before drifting over the top to safety.

Substitute Jayden Davis’ fizzing effort also went close in the fifty-seventh minute but despite the Iron’s dominance, they were not able to seriously trouble Day further.

Yeovil had a great chance to make it 2-0 just before the end, only for Sims to be fully on his mettle to spectacularly turn Young’s headed effort over the bar following Dylan Morgan’s cross.

The victory ended Yeovil’s run of four matches without a win and kept them seven points clear of second place Chelmsford City with a game in hand.

Next up for Braintree is a trip to Clarence Park to play St Albans City on Good Friday (3pm).
