Iron too strong for Hemel

Braintree Town v Hemel Hempstead Town – Vanarama National League South- Rare Breeds Meat Co Stadium – Report

Braintree Town 2-0 Hemel Hempstead Town

Two second-half goals from Aaron Blair gave third-place Braintree Town’s Vanarama National League South play-off hopes a further boost as the Iron secured a crucial 2-0 victory over ten-man Hemel Hempstead Town at the Rare Breeds Meat Co Stadium.

Following a goalless first-half performance, Braintree dominated play during the second period taking the lead in the fifty-third minute when following a corner, Joe Grimwood headed on to Blair at the far post to turn the ball home past Hemel keeper Craig King for the opener.

Blair doubled his – and the Iron’s – total in the sixty-seventh minute after escaping his marker in the area and firing past King again to seal the points with his nineteenth goal of the season.

With Hemel barely troubling the rock-sold Iron defence throughout, the afternoon finished on an even sourer note for the Tudors when King received his second yellow card five minutes from time with defender Josh Hill having to take his place in goal for the remainder of the match.

Having taken maximum points from their two games over the Easter period, Angelo Harrop’s charges return to action next Saturday with a trip to Weston-super-Mare (3pm).
