Iron unbeaten in fourteen

Braintree Town v Weymouth – Vanarama National League South – Rare Breeds Meat Co. Stadium – Report

Braintree Town 0-0 Weymouth

Braintree Town extended their unbeaten run in Vanarama National League South to fourteen games but were forced to settle for a point after a scoreless encounter with Weymouth at the Rare Breeds Meat Co. Stadium.

Angelo Harrop made three changes from Saturday’s 1-0 win against the same opposition at the Bob Lucas Stadium with Lewis Miccio, Reggie Lambe and Charlie Wakefield coming into the starting lineup in place of Ben Tompkins, Alfie Payne and Aaron Blair.

Jack Sims was forced into action in the eighth minute, tipping Corey Panter’s header over the crossbar at full stretch – with the former Blackpool custodian then being called upon to deny Joel Rollinson, Brandon Goodship and Tom Bearwish as the half progressed.

Iron went close to opening the scoring just before half-time when Tom Blackwell’s diving header from Lambe’s cross inched just wide of the far post and just minutes after the break – following another pinpoint cross from the lively Lambe, Bristol City loanee Harvey Wiles-Richards was fully on his mettle to keep out Shaq Coulthirst’s powerful headed effort.

Former Southend striker Goodship slipped Dan Roberts through one-on-one with Sims in the sixty-seventh minute – only for the keeper to once again stand tall and repel the danger by blocking the shot.

Sub Jayden Davis had two good opportunities to win the game for the Iron near the end but with both defences holding firm throughout the evening, the spoils were shared.

Iron remain in third place – five points behind Chelmsford City with a game in hand, whilst Weymouth stay fifteenth.

Next up for Braintree Town is the visit of runaway leaders Yeovil Town to Cressing Road on Saturday (3pm).
