Slough Town v Braintree Town – Vanarama National League South – Arbour ParkReport

Slough Town 3-0 Braintree Town

Slough Town eased to a 3-0 win over promotion-chasing Braintree Town in their Vanarama National League South clash at Arbour Park – with goals from Johnny Goddard, Nathan Minhas and substitute Mickel Platt.

Rebels took an early lead when Leon Chambers-Parillon’s low pull-back found Goddard in the area to prod the ball past Jack Sims to make it 1-0 after only four minutes.

Slough should have made it two shortly after, when Tyrese Dyce headed wide of the upright from barely a metre out, however, the remainder of the half proved to be a tense and somewhat cagey affair of few chances for either side.

The game continued in the same manner following the break before with seventy-nine minutes gone, Minhas latched onto a poor back pass before firing low past Sims into the bottom right-hand corner of the net to make it 2-0.

Iron’s best chance of the game came six minutes from time when substitute Gio Critchlow squared the ball back from the byline for Aaron Blair to fire over the bar.

Slough was awarded a penalty in the last minute of normal time after Munashe Sundire’s fierce effort cannoned off Ipswich Town loanee Harry Barbrook’s arm. Despite Sims getting his glove to Platt’s spot kick, he was unable to prevent the ball from creeping over the goal line for the Rebels’ third goal.

Despite the loss, Braintree remains in sixth place in the table.

Next up for the Iron in the league is the visit of Weymouth to the Rare Breeds Meat Co. Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
