1992: Jerry Nolan, former drummer with the New York Dolls, suffers a fatal stroke aged 45.

1994: The Duchess of Kent converts to Catholicism, the first member of the Royal Family to do so in more than 300 years.

2004: The national flag of Georgia is restored to official use after a hiatus of some 500 years.
