Chichester City v Great Wakering Rovers – Buildbase FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round – Oaklands Park – Report
Chichester City 1-2 Great Wakering Rovers
First-half goals from Jake Gordon and George Cox proved decisive as Great Wakering Rovers love affair with knockout football continued at Chichester City.
The villagers progressed to the third qualifying round stage, despite Tyrone Madhani pulling one back for the home side a quarter of an hour from time.
“We soaked up a lot of pressure in the second half,” Rovers boss, Steve Butterworth told Yellow Sport.
“We could have been better on the break, attempting to kill the ties and avoiding an uncomfortable finale. But cup, on in this case trophy fever struck again.”
Butterworth added: “We are all delighted with the result, but Tuesday’s Pitching In Isthmian League North game with Brentwood Town becomes so much more important now.
“The league is far more important. I can’t and won’t argue otherwise with anyone until I’ve got us away from the bottom of the table and out of trouble.
Great Wakering Rovers return to Pitching In Isthmian League North action on Tuesday, October 12 when Brentwood Town visit Burroughs Park (7:45pm).
