Chippenham Town v Concord Rangers – Vanarama National League South – Hardenhuish Park – Saturday 3pm – Preview
One win in seven – next to bottom in the Vanarama National League South table. That’s the predicament Concord Rangers currently find themselves in. However, far for finding excuses, Beach Boys boss, Danny Scopes insisted it’s all about rolling up your sleeves and finding a way as he looks to rediscover the form and spirit evident in the Canvey-based clubs run to the FA Trophy final.
Of course, it doesn’t get any easier – far from it. A trip to Hardenhuish Park and facing a Chippenham Town side eager to avenge an Emirates FA Cup defeat earlier in the campaign offers its own conundrums for the Concord boss: “Chippenham is a tough place to go and you hear that from most managers in the league when they speak about it – will be up to us to go and try to prove that wrong.” he told Yellow Sport.
A feisty encounter with promotion contenders, Dorking Wanderers, ended in defeat last time out. But having gone through the evidence with a fine toothcomb, Scopes drew on the positives to provide a platform before the trip west.
“I felt we were better against Dorking at times,” he explained.
“We saw vital glimpses of ‘Concord DNA’ in the performance. We had them where we wanted them until the final stages. It was fine margins after that and the nature of the defeat was hard to take, but we must use the experience, remember how we felt and make ourselves stronger.
“We go to Chippenham on Saturday and then Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday. We are hungry as a group for a performance and to see what we can achieve as a group.”
