It’s the right time for Ray as U’s go west

Exeter City v Colchester United – Sky Bet League Two – St James Park – Tuesday 7pm – Preview

A sound performance and a share of the spoils was exactly what Ray Crawford predicted from Colchester United’s Friday night visit to Mansfield Town. And the former U’s frontman thinks that Steve Ball’s men have provided a sound foundation to push on, starting with Tuesday’s tough trip to Sky Bet League Two promotion contenders Exeter City.

A late Luke Norris strike earned Colchester a 1-1 draw at the One-Call Stadium, leaving them in the final play-off position, a point and a place benefit the West Countrymen.

“It will be a tough test but nothing to be fearful of,” Crawford told Yellow Sport.

“They haven’t won in three matches and were given a jolt by Oldham Athletic on their own patch on Saturday. I think we can give them something to think about and have enough attacking quality to make it an interesting contest.

“Both teams are quite similar so it could well be all about confidence and current form. We will be keen to get one over them after the disappointments of the play-off semi-final last season. Colchester head there in a good place and should be confident of coming away with something.”

Ray Crawford’s prediction: Exeter City 1-1 Colchester United
Jeevesie’s prediction: Exeter City 2-2 Colchester United
