Jackett offers an honest assessment after O’s come up short

Leyton Orient v Harrogate Town – Sky Bet League Two – Breyer Group Stadium – Reaction

Leyton Orient 0-2 Harrogate Town

Kenny Jackett offered an honest assessment after witnessing his Leyton Orient side slip to their first Sky Bet League Two defeat of the season following a surprisingly tired-looking performance against Harrogate Town at the Breyer Group Stadium.

“I thought Harrogate deserved to win. They did a job on us – particularly in the first half. We gave away two soft goals – which I thought were defendable.”

The O’s boss added: “In terms of performance levels, we have been a lot better. I didn’t think we defended or competed well enough.

“Although we improved in the second half, we have to improve again. However, the penalty miss just about summed up our evening.”
Jackett concluded: “There are lessons to be learnt – although it’s early in the season.”

Victorious opposing boss, Simon Weaver revealed: “We were concerned in the aftermath of Covid [amongst the squad] regarding our energy levels, with two games in a short space of time. But, they weren’t to be and we put in a thoroughly honest performance.

“We pressed high, set traps and capitalised on their errors. And, Mark Oxley – who has played a fair amount of games in the last two seasons – was outstanding. We defend from back to front.”

Weaver concluded: “It’s a long season. We’ve got over forty games left and as we’re from Yorkshire, we don’t get too excited!”
