Jaiyesimi pens O’s deal

Sky Bet League One outfit Leyton Orient have confirmed the signing of exciting winger Diallang Jaiyesimi on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old moves across the capital following a three-year stint at Charlton Athletic. The player has also represented Dulwich Hamlet, Norwich City and Swindon Town, as well as loan spells with loan spells at Yeovil Town, Grimsby Town, AFC Wimbledon and St Johnstone.

O’s boss Richie Wellens worked with Jaiyesimi during his time at Swindon, initially bringing the player in on loan before making the deal permanent during the 2020/21 campaign.

Speaking to www.leytonorient.com, Jaiyesimi said: “I’ve admired the club for a long time. It’s really good to be here and I’m looking forward to it. I’m ready to go right now if we could, but we’ve got a long pre-season ahead of us, and I’m ready to get back to work.

“I’ve worked with Richie before at Swindon. I feel like those were my best seasons, and that he got the best out of me. With me coming in, we both know what to expect from each other. We had a really successful time together and got promotion into League One together. From working under him before, I know that his tactics are really good. He knows how to get the best out of players.”

Meanwhile, boss Wellens added: “DJ was a player I took on loan from Norwich a few years ago and he was absolutely outstanding. He got a big-money move to Charlton but he was played in a position which didn’t really suit him.

“We’re giving him the opportunity and the stage to get back to his very best. There is definitely a player in there. At his best, he is a really exciting player. He’s tricky, he’s skilful and he’s got strength. I’m looking forward to working with him again and seeing him get back to what we know he’s capable of.”
