Jammers appoint Taylor as new boss

Pitching In Isthmian League North outfit Maldon & Tiptree have appointed former England interim boss, Peter Taylor as their new manager.

Rochford-born Taylor famously handed David Beckham the England captaincy after taking temporary charge of the Three Lions.

A successful manager of England’s under-21 set-up, Taylor also took the reigns at Southend United, Crystal Palace, Hull City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Gillingham, Wycombe Wanderers, Bradford City and Dagenham & Redbridge.

As a player, Taylor started at Canvey Island before subsequently representing Southend United, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Leyton Orient, Oldham Athletic (loan) and Exeter City, as well as a whole host of non-league clubs.

Most recently, Taylor was in charge at Vanarama National South side, Welling United. He will be in the Park Drive dugout for Saturday’s league fixture against Wroxham.

Speaking to the Maldon & Tiptree official website about the appointment, Mitchell Cowling, General Manager said: “I am delighted to welcome Peter Taylor to Maldon & Tiptree FC. His wealth and knowledge is second to none and I am excited for everyone involved with the club to start working with him.”
