Old Southendian v Maldon & Tiptree – Pre-Season Friendly Match – Garon Park – Report

Old Southendian 2-3 Maldon & Tiptree

Essex Olympian League Premier Division outfit, Old Southendian, continued their pre-season activities with an entertaining contest against Isthmian League North side Maldon & Tiptree at Garon Park.

The Old Boys went down by the odd goal in three to White Ensign in their opening friendly fixture. Nevertheless, they found themselves two goals to the good during the early stages thanks to strikes from Jordan Walpole and Ryan Stillwell.

However, teh Jammers, who had taken on Sky Bet League Two side Colchester United seven days previous, hit back to win 3-2 with former Southend United man, Terrell Egbri, scoring twice.

Visitors boss – Former England interim manager, Peter Taylor – used the game to give a number of his squad. Meanwhile, Old Boys chief, Altan Ali, was pleased with what he had seen from his side: “We have played two teams from higher leagues and competed well,” he told Yellow Sport.

“Sure, we have plenty to do, but I’d imagine every manager is saying much the same at this stage of pre-season.

“But we have a platform and must continue to build on it as a squad.

“Ultimately, we want to challenge for honours this season. Testing ourselves against the likes of White Ensign and Maldon& Tiptree gives me an idea of where we are.”
