Kane is able for Southgate and England

England v Albania – FIFA World Cup Qualifying Group I – Wembley Stadium – Report

England 5-0 Albania

Someone recently mentioned that Harry Kane was out of sorts? NOt on this showing!

Okay, FIFA World Cup Qualifying Group I opponents, Albania endured an opening half from hell. But then again, you can only beat what is put in front of you. England’s opening 45 minutes was stylish and ruthless – led by the skipper, taking his Three Lions tally to 44 from 66 appearances.

“I thought he gave a brilliant centre-forward performance tonight,” England boss, Gareth Southgate enthused.

“He held the ball up and brought other people into play. He competed and, of course, his finishing was outstanding.

“I thought his all-round game was excellent.”

It wasn’t quite the proverbial ‘game of two halves’ – Five-up at the break, England were never in any trouble: “The first half was fantastic, as well as we have played for a long time,” Southgate added.

“It is always difficult to maintain that when you are so far ahead. We had so much adrenaline in the first half.

“We were still professional in the second half, just, unfortunately, we couldn’t get the crowd more goals.”

“I think we are best when we have an edge and we didn’t produce what we should have against Hungary.

“We needed to put that right. We had a game tonight to put us on the verge of qualification for a World Cup – simple as that.”
