Kane’s future overshadows Villa clash

Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa – Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Wednesday 6pm – Preview

Suggestions that England skipper, Harry Kane believes his future lies elsewhere somewhat captured the focus ahead of Tottenham’s vital Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

The North Londoners remain on course for a Europea berth next season. Nevertheless, throughout another frustrating campaign that initially promised so much but again has come up short, Kane has largely carried his side with another impressive goal haul, so far totalling 27 in all competition, none of which have led to elusive silverware.

Only last month, shortly after Tottenham’s Carabao Cup final defeat, Kane said: “Individual awards are great, they are fantastic achievements,”

“When I look back at the end of my career, these are the things I will go over and take in more but the goal right now as a player is to win team trophies.”

Tottenham’s response to rumours was a non-committal; “Our focus is on finishing the season as strongly as possible,” but there’s little doubt all eyes will be on Kane, from Lilywhites supporters – some lucky enough to be returning to the stadium on Wednesday – as well as interested parties, including Manchester City and London rivals, Chelsea.

Visitors’ Aston Villa will include Jack Grealish – often mentioned in the same context as Spurs and perhaps viewed by the club as part of a rebuilding programme?

Grealish appeared as a second-half substitute during Villa’s 3-2 defeat at Crystal Palace. Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the 26-year-olds signature.

But amidst transfer talk, there is a football match to be played. Europa League and Europa Conference League places remain in Tottenham’s sights, although it remains to be seen whether their talismanic frontman will continue the journey with them?
