Essex’s recent three-match unbeaten sequence was brought to its conclusion by old adversaries, Kent at the Polo Farm Sports Ground, Canterbury.

Joe Gordon knocked 53 off 27 balls, while SJD Burgess was unbeaten on 46 and Tawanda Muyeye chipped in with 45 as the home side posted a competitive 204/7 – Feroze Khushi – taking 2/24 – one of six bowlers deployed by Essex and indeed, amongst the wickets.

Will Buttleman continued his recent good form with the bat, scoring 49. Khushi followed his exploits with the ball by hitting 40 off 17, while Nick Browne scored 35. But the target proved just out of reach. Nathan Gilchrist was impressive for Kent, claiming 4/37.

The Essex second-string return to Second XI T20 – South Group action on Monday, June 14 when they face Middlesex at Garon Park, Southend in a behind closed doors fixture.
