Feroze Khushi marked his ‘A’ List debut with a century but couldn’t prevent his Essex Eagles side from slipping to a DLS method defeat against Durham at the Emirates Riverside.
Khushi’s terrific 148-minute stint in the middle consisted of 111 balls and included seven 4s and one 6. Josh Rymell provided able support to the Eagles cause, reaching 40 in the rain-affected contest – Jack Campbell taking 3/58 for the home side.
However, Durham’s Alex Lees was to eclipse the efforts of the Essex youngsters. His career-best 126 not out off 132 balls – including the winning boundary off Ben Allison – helped the hosts to a dramatic and seemingly unlikely victory.
The results saw Essex slip to third in Group A – Durham leaping into the top spot at the conclusion.
Essex Eagles return to Royal London One Day Cup action on Tuesday, August 10 when Sussex visit the Cloudfm County Ground, Chelmsford (11am).
