Leyton Orient v Exeter City – Sky Bet League One – Gaughan Group Stadium – Tuesday (7:45pm) – Preview

Leyton Orient return to Sky Bet League One action on Tuesday evening and Peter Kitchen has called for more of the same from the East Londoners when in-form Exeter City arrive in E10 for what is sure to be an entertaining Sky Bet League One encounter.

Despite all but conceding their play-off chances for the campaign, the O’s lifted themselves off the canvas to see off relegation-threatened Cheltenham Town over the weekend. A result and performance that gave everybody connected with the club a lift.

“I’ve said it before, we can’t be too downhearted about the season,” the former frontman told Yellow Sport.

“It would be easy for everyone to view the season as over and pack the sandshoes and suncream. But Saturday was anything but that.

“I don’t doubt that Richie Wellens is already planning ahead of next season, and has identified areas to improve as well as several potential new faces to strengthen the squad.

“That’s good to know as an Orient fan. The club haven’t rested on their laurels. We are ambitious but realistic. The performance against Cheltenham proved that the manager and players want to finish the season as best they can, even if that means missing out on the top six.”

The O’s face an Exeter side, themselves in midtable, but pulling out all the stops of late.

“The Grecians are in great form,” Kitchen added.

“They are unbeaten in six, winning four and drawing two, and that includes victories over Stevenage at home and away.

“Exeter are a similar sized club to ourselves. They have to cut their clothes accordingly but will be aiming towards the play-off places again next season.

“Like Richie, Grecians’ boss, Gary Caldwell has done a great job this season. Exeter are an established side at this level. Tuesday’s game will be a step up from Cheltenham, but another opportunity to test ourselves and potentially finish the season with a flourish.”

Peter Kitchen’s prediction: Leyton Orient 1-1 Exeter City
