Carlisle United v Leyton Orient – Sky Bet League Two – Brunton Park – Saturday 1pm – Preview
Peter Kitchen is expecting a stiff examination of Leyton Orient’s Sky Bet League Two play-off credentials when they head to top of the table Carlisle United on Saturday.
The Brunton Park club has lost just one of the last seven matches – a sequence which has seen them elevated to the summit. However, Orient has also improved of late. Back-to-back victories over Southend United and Salford City at The Breyer Group Stadium has carried them within a point of the top seven.
“We’ve looked so much better in our last two games,” Kitchen told Yellow Sport.
“Defensively, we have been solid – resulting in two welcome clean sheets. Overall, we’ve appeared better organised. If we can go to Carlisle and match them for work rate, be competitive throughout and maintain the same spirit and togetherness, then we can give them something to think about.
“Carlisle will be a big test of our recent resurgence – similarly to Salford. They have proved how quickly you can reach the top with a string of results. However, League Two is extremely unpredictable. We’ve seen on several occasions that no team is the ‘complete package’ or are unbeatable. Orient are certainly capable of getting something if their credentials are intact.
Kitchen continued: “But here’s the problem. We all know that the O’s can look the part and produce decent stuff for long periods of a game. However, inconsistency remains an issue. Being able to sustain the tempo and keep the pressure on for the full ninety minutes.
“We have a challenging month ahead with four games against sides harbouring play-off ambitions. I believe this would be a good time to bring in some new faces and add fresh impetus and further quality to the group.
“If we can achieve this as well as adding points to the board during the month to remain in touching distance, then a play-off place is not out of reach.”
Peter Kitchen’s prediction: Carlisle United 2-1 Leyton Orient
Jeevesie’s prediction: Carlisle United 1-1 Leyton Orient
