Kitch confident that O’s will return to winning ways

Stevenage v Leyton Orient – Sky Bet League Two – The Lamex Stadium – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Despite Leyton Orient’s recent winless sequence extending to five Sky Bet League Two matches, Peter Kitchen expects the East Londoners to return to winning ways when they visit struggling Stevenage on Saturday.

Ruel Sotiriou’s stunning strike ensured the O’s a welcome share of the spoils against league leaders, Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday evening: “It was a creditable point against a side unbeaten away all season, and keeping six clean sheets amongst their thirteen matches to date,” the former frontman told Yellow Sport.

“The O’s looked disjointed and lacked creativity for much of the game and the reasons looked self-evident. The quality of the service is poor and not enough players are getting forward in support of their big target man. Indeed, adding to that, Smyth and Smith looked like strangers at times who were not really on the same wavelength.”

Kitchen continued: “Despite not playing well and finding goals difficult to come by recently, we have drawn four of those games. The strength and resolve we have in defence and our fighting spirit under Kenny Jackett’s leadership should see us pull through this poor sequence of results.

“What is encouraging about this O’s team is the way they responded after going behind to Matt Stevens’ sixty-eighth-minute goal for Rovers. Ruel’s stunning finish eight minutes later lit the O’s touch paper and set up a late flourish and a higher tempo – we could have nicked it.”

On the trip to the Lamex, Kitch added: “Stevenage will be nervous and wary of Orient. They haven’t won in three and have lost each of their last two games by the same 3-0 margin.

“I would like to see us get back to playing on the front foot and recreate the higher tempo and intensity shown in their early-season games and the final quarter of an hour against Forest Green. If we can play ten or fifteen yards further up the pitch as a team, then I think we will swamp Stevenage and get the win we so badly need.”

Peter Kitchen’s prediction: Stevenage 0-2 Leyton Orient
Jeevesie’s prediction: Stevenage 1-3 Leyton Orient
