Kitch enjoying a return to form for O’s

Rochdale v Leyton Orient – Sky Bet League Two – The Crown Oil Arena – Saturday (3pm) – Preview

Nothing stands still in football for too long and Leyton Orient is a prime example.

Struggling to discover their ruthless side, the O’s appeared to be treading water – A six-game winless sequence seeing the O’s lose momentum and fall out of the Sky Bet League Two play-off places.

However, a five-goal mauling of Hartlepool, followed by progress in both the Emirates FA Cup and Papa John’s Trophy has lifted spirits around E10, including those of former frontman, Peter Kitchen.

“It can all change in the blink of an eye,” Kitch told Yellow Sport.

“Less than two weeks ago we were wondering where the next win would come from? Defensively, we were solid, claiming a string of draws. But goals were hard to come by – just two in four games. The team responded magnificently.

“The 5-0 win over Hartlepool restored our place amongst the play-off contenders, while cup successes over Ebbsfleet and Charlton provide the potential for a lucrative run – Particularly the FA Cup, where the hope of a big third-round tie remains in focus, should we overcome Tranmere Rovers in round two.

Kitchen continued: “This return to form will provide the players with a massive confidence booster and is the ideal preparation ahead of Saturday’s tough League Two fixture away at Rochdale.

“It’s going to be a challenging game for the O’s. We need our Scrooge-like defence to be as mean as ever to get something from the game.

“Rochdale are currently in thirteenth place, but only three points behind the O’s, who sit in sixth. This league is so tight at the moment with only six points separating the O’s from eighteenth-placed Crawley Town. Indeed, every team has an opportunity to rocket up the table with just a couple of wins.”

Kitch added: “I’m expecting to see us maintain our defensive solidarity, but with every chance of finding a winner from our in-form striking partnership of Smith and Drinan. I’m tipping the O’s to nick this by the narrowest of margins.”

Peter Kitchen’s prediction: Rochdale 0-1 Leyton Orient
