Port Vale v Leyton Orient – Sky Bet League Two – Vale Park – Saturday (3pm) – Preview
There is little doubt that Leyton Orient will face a real test of their promotion credentials when they take on in-form Port Vale at Vale Park on Saturday.
The Burslem outfit has won each of their last three Sky Bet League Two outings, moving them up to fourth place – a point behind the O’s – after nine games.
“This is likely to be the O’s stiffest test of the season so far and with both teams in a rich vein of form,” Kitchen told Yellow Sport
“It promises to be an intriguing contest. Naturally, both teams will be keen to avoid defeat, but each will feel capable and confident that they can win it and put down a marker.
“Three points can also help further distance ourselves from the chasing pack. We are currently second with a single defeat to our name and are still unbeaten on the road.
“Of course, Kenny Jackett – along with the rest of us – were frustrated that we couldn’t break through against Mansfield Town. But the manager will be boosted by the news that striker Paul Smyth has returned to fitness. Except for long-term absentee, Adam Thompson, he has almost a full complement to select from.”
Kitchen continued: “Port Vale have only tasted defeat twice in their opening nine games and have collected some impressive scalps along the way, including table-topping Forest Green Rovers, as well as Harrogate Town and Swindon Town, both amongst the chasing pack.
“A win would see them leapfrog the O’s. This is likely to be a highly competitive and evenly-fought contest. I think a share of the spoils is the most likely outcome.”
Peter Kitchen’s prediction: Port Vale 1-1 Leyton Orient
Jeevesie’s prediction: Port Vale 0-0 Leyton Orient
