Leyton Orient 3-0 Harrogate Town – Reaction
Peter Kitchen was delighted to see a Leyton Orient side playing on the front foot and determined to end their recent winless sequence.
Danny Johnson – recalled to the starting line-up – took his tally to the season to twelve with a stylish hat-trick to sink Harrogate Town, and former frontman Kitchen has called for more of the same as the O’s attempt to cobble together the consistency required for a push towards the Sky Bet League Two play-off places.
“It goes to show what this team can achieve when they are set up correctly,” Kitchen told Yellow Sport.
“I know Harrogate didn’t offer too much, but this was conclusive evidence that we are capable of far more than we have displayed in recent weeks.
“It was apparent when Ross named the team that we could expect much more attacking intent. The players responded accordingly, proving that when they have belief in their tasks they can produce the goods.”
Having called for Johnson to return to the team, Kitch was pleased to see the player respond in such emphatic fashion.
“I think we expected to see goals with some skilful, attack-minded players in the eleven. Once we’d settled into a rhythm, Danny took centre stage, profiting from a side prepared to take the game to the opposition in a system which best suits their abilities.”
Kitchen added: “The improvement in results during the recent four-match unbeaten sequence and now against Harrogate were achieved after implementing what I’ve been advocating for many weeks. We must try to dictate the play and pace of the game.
“It is now vital that Ross builds on this win as we approach the halfway point in the season. And with Bradford City, the visitors in midweek, he will have another opportunity to do exactly that.”
