Port Vale v Leyton Orient – Sky Bet League Two – Vale Park – Saturday 1pm – Preview
Six points and two clean sheets have propelled Leyton Orient within a point of the Sky Bet League Two play-off places, much to the delight of Peter Kitchen.
Wins over Harrogate Town and Bradford City at the Breyer Group Stadium have impressed the former frontman: “Four goals and two clean sheets have boosted player confidence no end and Head Coach, Ross Embleton, cannot have failed to finally recognise the reasons for their turn around in results,” he told Yellow Sport.
“The results have breathed new life into the push for a play-off place. The side looked balanced, settled and the formation – particularly the back four and central defensive pairing, is impressive.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of Jobi McAnuff linking the play from midfield. If this continues and Ross doesn’t revert back to his policy of player rotation, then we might see the consistency that has been missing and much more cohesion in the team which will bring with it fluidity and improved all-round performances as well.”
Kitchen continued: “It was good to also see Jordan Mcguire-Drew get an outing against Bradford. He needs more game time if we are to see the best of him and his wand of a left peg.
“Jordan created the winner for Dan Happe, whose height should be utilised more effectively from dead-ball situations.”
The O’s now head north to face a Port Vale side that has slipped alarmingly of late, losing each of their last four league outings: “I think Orient can be encouraged by their own form as well as Port Vale’s recent slip,” he added.
“Vale were beaten at Stevenage during the week. I believe this one is there for the taking for Orient,”
“I said before the Harrogate match that Ross needed to draw a line. Results this week suggest he has done exactly that. It’s now key to continue in this vein and keep building momentum.”
Peter Kitchen’s prediction: Port Vale 1-2 Leyton Orient
Jeevesie’s prediction: Port Vale 1-1 Leyton Orient
