Kitch urges O’s to look ahead positively

Leyton Orient v Cheltenham Town – Sky Bet League Two – Breyer Group Stadium – Preview

Peter Kitchen has urged everyone connected with Leyton Orient to put their recent COVID troubles behind them and concentrate on extending their unbeaten sequence, established before the unscheduled break.

O’s return to action against a tough Cheltenham Town side, themselves keen to mount a promotion push and build on a 3-0 success over Tranmere Rovers last time out.

“I’m sure everyone wants to get back into action this weekend,” Kitchen told Yellow Sport.

“Of course, it remains to be seen just how the virus has affected the player’s energy levels. But I’m sure they will be as ready as they can be and keen to move on.

“I think there might also be a hangover from the disappointment of having to forfeit the Tottenham tie. These elements are bound to affect the player’s mindset. But we must now focus on what is in front of us.

“Orient are five matches unbeaten in all competitions. We need to rediscover our cohesion and rhythm – We certainly witnessed Orient’s fighting spirit in the final minutes against Mansfield. That isn’t in question.”

Looking ahead to Cheltenham’s visit, the former frontman added: “They’ve had a couple of inactive weeks due to similar events at Grimsby involving the virus.

“Cheltenham impressed against Tranmere – they are no mugs, having reached the play-offs last season. They will provide a tough test, especially as we don’t really know which of the Orient players are fully match fit and with little information coming out of the club.

“I was at the Mansfield game. We have to start better, but the character displayed impressed me hugely, as did striker Danny Johnson. With the goal threat he provides, Orient can be confident of taking all three points and moving towards the top seven places.
