Old Southendian v Leigh Town – Garon Park – Saturday noon – Preview
Connor Lane will once again cast an eye over a large percentage of his squad when local rivals, Leigh Town, visit Garon Park for the latest step in their respective pre-season activities.
The Old Boys won a thrilling five-goal contest with Hullbridge Sports under 23’s last weekend, with Lane satisfied with their swift progress. Nevertheless, the hosts boss is wary there is still work to do ahead of the Essex Olympian League kick-off next month.
“Leigh Town were in brilliant form last season, we know they will provide us with a tough test,” Lane told Yellow Sport.
“We have a squad of eighteen available, with a couple rested allowing an opportunity to prove for others.
“The squad is larger than last season. Attendances at training have been high and although it is early days, we hope that this trend continues throughout.
Lane added: “I’m sure both teams are still experimenting to an extent. It’ll be a decent game, although It’s difficult to work out in this weather. I think the 3g surface adds a few degrees too.”
