Lane pleased that lessons have been learned

Connor Lane insisted his side are taking positive steps throughout pre-season and are starting to play with the fluency required to challenge come the start of the ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division campaign.

The Old Boys impressively saw off Eastern Senior League side, Burnham Ramblers, by four goals to two at Garon Park.

Jamie Oates opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the open exchanges. However, Karl Swanborough levelled before the ten-minute mark as the game started at a furious pace.

Ryan Stillwell re-established the Old Boys lead with a well placed headed goal, then Connor Burrows followed up to add a third before the break.

Mitch Alli brilliantly chipped a fourth after the interval and despite the Ramblers pulling one back in stoppage time, Lane was more than satisfied with his sides toil.

“In every pre-season friendly we have continued to learn from and that showed in today performance,” the Old Boys boss told Yellow Sport.

“We created numerous chances in open play and was able to execute some which I am most happy with.

“The squad have become very united recently and can’t wait for next week when we’ll try to start the season positively and get some real points on the board.”
