Old Southendian 3-2 Hullbridge Sports U23
Connor Lane insisted that his Old Southendian side had blown away a few more cobwebs after overseeing their thrilling 3-2 pre-season friendly victory over a talented Hullbridge Sports under 23 side at Garon Park.
Neil McLean, Harry Dacosta and Nick Henesy scored the decisive goals for the Old Boys – Walker responding with a brace for the visitors.
“The performance was much-improved from last week,” Lane told Yellow Sport.
“It showed because the team took on board what we had worked on in training. We knew Hulbridge would have a talented squad and we would need to be disciplined in our shape which we managed to execute well.”
Lane was fully aware that his side needed to be more ruthless, adding: “We had chances to increase our lead at 2-0 and 3-1 which we missed and that could have cost us when they had got back to 3-2 and pinned us back towards the end looking for an equaliser.
But overall I’m happy. Being able to hand a couple of trialists a chance added to an otherwise satisfactory day.”
