Lane urges Old Boys to find a ruthless streak

Old Southendian 2-2 Leigh Town

Connor Lane confessed there is still plenty of work to do for his Old Southendian side, particularly in front of goal, as they continue preparations ahead of the ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Premier Division campaign.

The Old Boys played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Leigh Town at Garon Park – Jon Staines and a Nick Henesy spot-kick for the home side – Dan Steerwood and Shane Cooper with the Town response.

“Overall I am happy with how we performed,” Lane told Yellow Sport.

“But missed chances have been highlighted, and a strong Leigh Town side that has almost cost us.

“I thought we managed to knock the ball around swiftly in spells. But Leigh was able to create chances – our keeper earning his corn at vital times.

Lane added: “I don’t think there is much difference between the top Olympian division’s – that has been proved with the result and how resilient Leigh were.”
