Lang brace ends U’s cup dreams

Colchester United v Wigan Athletic – Emirates FA Cup Second Round – JobServe Community Stadium – Report

Colchester United 1-2 Wigan Athletic

A goal in each half from Wigan Athletic’s Callum Lang proved decisive as Colchester United’s Emirates FA Cup ambitions were concluded following this hard-fought tie at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Lang profited at teh far post after former U’s man, Gavin Massey had fashioned an opening midway through the opening period. And although Freddie Sears equalised for the home side in first-half stoppage time, Lang struck again fifteen minutes from time to send the Latics through.

Colchester can consider themselves unlucky not to have forced a replay. Sears and Sylvester Jasper went close for Hayden Mullins’ side.

The U’s return to Sky Bet League Two action on Wednesday, December 8 when they face Bradford City at Valley Parade (7:45pm).
